What's the time?

[<< first]  [< previous]  [index]  [next >]  [last >>]

Officially WTC-2 collapsed 09:59 and WTC-1 collapsed at 10:28.

Images/videos with clocks/watches during the two first demolitions are rare. If you have any I will be happy to see them : )

WTC-2
Video: 911.wtc.2.demo.1005.wmv -- 320 x 240 pixels, 30 fps, 0m13s, 415KB
"10:05 AM - The south tower of the World Trade Center [...] collapses."

The danish TV2 also uses 10:05 as the time of the first collapse in the first days after 9/11.
Did they just looked at the studio watch ... until the FBI told them to look at the seismic data?

Here is a clock from the first demolition.
The video/images can be viewed at this page
The time on the Trinity Church clock seems to be about 10:05.

This image is taken during the WTC-2 demolition (to the back). It's beyond any doubt, that the clock (especially the clock to the right) is at least a couple of minutes past 10.
Images from the same sequence is available here - http://www.mirrors.org/historical/2001-09-11-World-Trade_Center/wtc/image_gallery/index_2.htm

The following clip is from 60 Minutes. It states that the clock stopped 5 minutes after Tower One collapsed. They mixed up the two towers ... and the explanation as well?

Nice clock
Why should the clock stop 5 minutes after the WTC-2 collapse?
It sure looks like the clock stopped at same time as the tower did.

From Here Is New York - id: 2575. And the time: 10:06

WTC-1
Images from the video "911.wtc.1.demolition.north.metamorphosis.wmv" on this page. The two clocks enlarged. Two images from the same event, the same tower and the same clock. They are both from here is new york
Match the image to the right 10:28
In the official line

Notice that it's the clock that are in focus - not WTC-1.

16 seconds later than the above ...
... and match the image to the right.
10:31
2-3 minutes later ...?

Different camera, same clock (in the lower right)...

The video shows that there are 16 seconds between the two stills - the stills themselves shows that there seems to be 2-3 minutes between them.
At least one of the images (to the right) must have been altered. Why?

This tower clock is out of sync. The hour hand is not correct, but the minute hand seems to be okay.
The clock could be completly out of order, and the position of the minute hand just a coincidence. The clock is the same as the one in the video "911.wtc.1.demolition.clock.mpg" (below), which make me think clock is working.
Anyway, the tower one is still standing and the time is 10:29 (if the minute is right).
I will try to locate some video to make an analysis of the smokepattern, to determine how near the collapse is.

Video: 911.wtc.1.demolition.clock.mpg -- 320 x 240 pixels, 25 fps, 0m06s, 607KB
Although it's a low quality video, some of the frames are "readable". The minute hand is flickering and the hour hand is almost invisible. But the overall impression is that the time is around 10:32-10:33.
This clip was taken about 30 seconds after the start of the collapse - about the time of the west side of the core (the spire) was going down. The shape of the smoke column and the size of the plumes of concrete are pretty good measurements.
On this page - Demolition of WTC-1 - No pancaking - you can see how the smoke column evolves. The frame to the left is 30 seconds after the start of the collapse.
Look at this clip to see how fast the smoke column looses it's shape and how the plumes rises.
